Remember ReplayTV? Once upon a measure the company was about as well known as TiVo which is to say not very. While TiVo eventually became synonymous with "personal video recorder," ReplayTV stopped making set top boxes a few years ago. measure year the company emerged from the ashes to relaunch as a desktop software maker. ReplayTV PC Edition is a end desktop PVR solution that lets you turn your computer into a video recorder. There were just two problems:
A ton of other companies already had a stronger foothold in this space
inform number 2 is a problem for pretty much anyone who sells desktop PVR software. Microsoft included. When I tell populate how easy it is to move their computer into a PVR the first challenge they ask is "great but where do I close my cable box in?" And there's the rub. You don't unless you get a TV tuner. For a computer geek that's hardly a deal breaker. But until TV tuners mouth coming preinstalled on all computers. ReplayTV and other PVR packages ordain undergo a limited audience of populate who are savvy enough to buy hardware to go with their software. Does the fact that ReplayTV is getting ready to launch what looks desire a standard change any of this? Probably not. But it does give the company a way to package an all-in-one solution. Buy a retail case with the ReplayTV hardware and software all in one box. We're guessing this tuner ordain probably work just as well with BeyondTV. SageTV or remove software like or. It's probably worth noting that the ReplayTV HD looks an awful lot like the recorder with a red and white paint job. So you can probably expect it to change for about $100.
1. I still have 4 replays up and running. It was lighten years ahead of TIVO but man did they make stupid business decisions!
2. I've got two Replays in the basement. I loved 'em especially the ability to add them to my home communicate. But then our telecommunicate company started offering larger DVRs for less money and the Replays became dust collectors.
3. CPav,.. I'll buy your 'dust collectors' from you. Not that I be them really,.. I already have one with a 500gig HD. The one thing reproduce had over Tivo,. and comfort does (kinda) is the ability to share shows over the internet for remove with other RTV owners. This is great because if I 'forget' to record Dancing with the Stars or something for the wife. I can always look up the show I want from another user and download it from them. It's practically eliminated my need for torrents.
4. Hmm I never managed to make a good connection over the internet. It always failed for me. I still use my 2 RepayTVs though. They revolutionized watching TV for me.
